Lung Treatment After Lung Surgery
Patients at early stage of
non small cell lung cancer may need surgery. Part of the patients
lung might be removed along with the cancer cell. The size of lung
that had to be removed depends on the size and how extensive the
cancer cell has spreading. After surgery, patients still need medical
lung
treatment
to make sure that surgery succeed and the cancer cell will not grow
again. These are several treatments after lung surgery.
- When the patient wake up, she will be feel dizzy and confused. Several tube and drip attached to her body like intravenous drip and tube in her chest to drain fluid and air from chest cavity. These drip and tubes will removed if the patient doesn’t need it anymore.
- Several days after surgery, patients will have respiratory and physical theraphy to recovering. Nurse or theraphyst will be assisting patient with several methode that adjusted to the patient physical and lung condition.
- The painkiller medicine also given depending the condition of the patients. Some patients only need painkillers for several days after surgery but the other one need painkillers for weeks.
- 2 – 7 days after surgery, the patients may leave the hospital. Before the patient going home, doctor will examine again the patient health. The doctor will also give some suggestion e.g. visiting schedule, how and when to take medicine, daily physical activity, etc.
- At home, the patients should avoiding materials that could harm her lung and respiratory system, including tobacco smoke, asbestos, and other air pollutants.
- Usually the patients could back to do their normal activity in 6 – 12 weeks after surgery. Meanwhile they should have their lung checked according the schedule arranged by their doctors.
- The patients may have to wait to do their normal activity when the doctor say that they need another medical assitants.
